With the encouragement of Paul Whitworth, my editor and publisher at the Raymondville Chronicle and Willacy County News, I took a headline writing course through the University of Texas at Austin School of Journalism and the Texas Press Association.
Today, I found out I passed!
Guess all that headline-writing homework paid off.
Today, I received a letter formally notifying me that I’ll be receiving a Houston Press Club scholarship.
Today, I received an achievement award from the UH School of Communication.
I won a four-year UH Houston Alumni Organization Legacy scholarship!

Today, I received a letter from the Who’s Who Among American High School Students organization/publishing house, alerting me to the fact that I will be included in their latest edition. I was included in last year’s, too.
It’s either an honor – or a sales tactic. Regardless, here it is.
